Hindemith: Ludus TonalisFauré:     Nocturnes No. 4, 7, 13Edward AldwellHere, along with the MASTERPIECE of 20th Century Counterpoint and Fugue by Hindemith, is included 3 Fauré Nocturnes.  This is a memorable CD by one of the world's foremost classical music pianists, and most respected and well known educational theorists and writers.  Edward Aldwell lives in New York, and is on the faculties of The Curtis Institutes and Mannes School of Music.BiographyBorn in Portland, Oregon, EDWARD ALDWELL received his early musical training in Texas and at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.  He received both the Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees at the Juilliard School where he was a student of Adele Marcus.  Upon graduating from Juilliard, Mr. Aldwell was awarded the Marie Dring Prize which enabled him to spend two years in intensive study of the keyboard works of J.S. Bach.  Subsequently, he received an Ingram Merrill Foundation grant for analysis and performance of Bach's keyboard music, and was presented in his New York debut performing the complete Book I of The Well-Tempered Clavier.  Since that time he has given numerous recitals in the United States, many of them devoted to J.S. Bach, including performances of both books of The Well-Tempered Clavier during the tri-centennial season 1984-85.  In January of 1992 he presented an all-Bach evening for San Francisco Performances at Herbst Hall.  In 1993 he gave four recitals as part of The Art of Fugue series sponsored by the Friends of Chamber Music in Kansas City.Mr. Aldwell is co-author with Carl Schachter of the textbook Harmony and Voice Leading which is widely used in universities and conservatories throughout the United States. He has for the last two decades taught theory and Schenkerian analysis at the Curtis Institute of Music and at the Mannes College of Music where he is also a member of the piano faculty.  Deeply committed to teaching analysis to serve performance, he has appeared in this country and abroad, giving master classes and lecture-recitals focusing on Bach's keyboard works. Mr. Aldwell has recorded both books of The Well-Tempered Clavier for Nonesuch Records, The Goldberg Variations and other Bach works for Biddulph Recordings, and works of Hindemith and Faurè for Pro Piano Records.
